Reduce fuel costs with HaulTech

LGV running costs have hit an all-time high due to the soaring cost of fuel, according to the latest research by the Freight Transport Association.  The average annual increase in the cost of diesel to April 2012 is 3.6% – meaning the cost of running a 44 tonne vehicle shot up by nearly £2000 per year and even a 26 tonne vehicle now costs an extra £1000 per year to run. Diesel now represents 40% of the costs of operating a vehicle and the cost is only ever likely to continue to rise!

Save fuel and maximise fleet efficiency:

A recent report from the RHA has stated the “…single biggest influence on fuel consumption is how a vehicle is driven.” The RHA’s Peter Shakespeare goes on to say: “This can be managed by the use of vehicle telematics and training.”

 

The report goes on to state that the difference between a truck running at 8.70mpg and 8.00mpg can save as much as £5,250.00 per year. (based on 100,000 miles @ £1.15 a litre) That’s just a 9% improvement to save over £5000!

Fuel Management, a user’s guide from HaulTech

As fuel prices soar and availablilty drops, we thought we’d offer our 4 step guide to better fuel management:

  1. Best price, best service:  Make sure you are not paying for your ‘loyalty’, to a single fuel supplier.  Shop around and purchase from the supplier with the best price, not the best prize.
  2. Keep it secure and safe: Once you’ve purchased it, make sure it is managed at the pump and not wasted through poor vehicle maintenance
  3. Little bits lead to large savings: MPG monitoring only gives an indication of fuel consumption over distance.  By utilising telematics systems like TrakMaster users can further analyse speed, idling, cruise control usage, revs and acceleration to get a full idea of vehicle usage and driver performance.
  4. Award performance: Companies that reward drivers for hitting driving KPI’s, see fuel usage improve by as much as 12%.  TrakMaster generates driver performance reports which can be used to manage & reward good drivers and flag those drivers who require further training.

Fuel prices continue to rise

Diesel prices reached an all time high today.  The BBC reported that Brent Crude had hit  $128.40 a barrel, which has had a knock on effect at the pumps (full story).  With this added pressure on delivery margins, HaulTech can offer companies the tools with which to monitor fuel consumption and optimise the efficiency of their fleet. HaulTech aquire leading Vehicle Telematics and Tracking company

HTC Solutions Ltd, developers of the HaulTech software solution for the haulage, logistics and distribution industry, has acquired Stafford based CS Electronics Ltd, a market leading vehicle tracking and telematics provider. The business will transfer to HTC Solution’s offices in Newcastle-under-Lyme and will come under the HaulTech brand as HaulTech TrakMan.

HaulTech customers have previously benefited from tracking solutions from third-party suppliers but the addition of TrakMan will add further real-time feeds from GPRS units, CANbus and Digital Tachographs giving users live vehicle, driver and performance data rather than historical reports.
